November Staff of the Month - Alicia Richmond

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself: what are some fun facts about you?

I love the outdoors, camping, hiking and playing in waterfalls. In addition to my work here at the YMCA, I also teach college communication classes at WVU Parkersburg.

2. What do you teach at the YMCA of Parkersburg? Tell us a little bit about it.

I am the Aquatics Coordinator and a Swim Lesson Instructor. I prefer teaching children with little to no swimming skills. It is such a joy when they learn this vital skill.

3. When and why did you become an instructor? What's your teaching style?

I put my niece in swim lessons when she was 3 years old. I loved the program so much I started teaching a few months later. That was around 8 years ago.

4. What is your most favorite part of teaching at the YMCA of Parkersburg?

My favorite part of working at the YMCA is that it feels like home. I love the people I work with. I love the kids I am blessed with in the pool. I love our dedication to the community. It is very rewarding.
