Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative movement disorder which can cause deterioration of motor skills, balance, speech and sensory function.

Various studies in the 1980s and 1990s supported the notion that rigorous exercise, emphasizing gross motor movement, balance, core strength, and rhythm, could favorably impact range of motion, flexibility, posture, gait, and activities of daily living.

Rock Steady Boxing, gives people with Parkinson’s disease hope by improving their quality of life through a non-contact boxing based fitness curriculum.

To participate you must have a Parkinson’s diagnosis.

Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do is an ancient Korean martial art. It is a form of self-defense that includes blocks and punches while putting a greater emphasis on kicking techniques. The translation for Tae Kwon Do is “the way of the hands and feet”. The instructors teach traditional Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do.

There are several benefits associated with this martial art, both expected and unexpected. Physical fitness benefits include balance, flexibility, weight control, speed, and strength. Not so obvious mental benefits are gained as well. These include traits such as confidence, respect, lower stress levels, and humility.

Instructors from S. H. Kang's Tae Kwon Do work within everyone’s limitations and help them to attain their own personal best while promoting integrity, pride, loyalty, and discipline. Both children and adults are welcome which allows many to make it an activity the whole family can do together.

WHEN:

Mondays & Thursdays from 7:00 - 8:30 PM

COST:

  • Members: $80/session

  • Non-Members: $100/session

A single session is 8 weeks long.
