How has the YMCA impacted your life?
Before I started working at the YMCA, I was a very shy person and didn’t like talking to people much. I usually kept to myself and felt uncomfortable starting conversations. Since I began working here, that has changed a lot. Being around coworkers and meeting new people every day has helped me become more confident and comfortable speaking with others. I’ve made many friends and built strong connections with people at work. Now I enjoy talking to people and being part of a team. Working at the YMCA has really helped me grow as a person and come out of my shell.
What do you think the community needs to know about the YMCA of Parkersburg?
The YMCA is very passionate about its mission and helping others achieve their goals. We care deeply about supporting people and making a positive difference in their lives. Everything we do is centered around the community, and we enjoy seeing the community grow and become stronger. Being part of the YMCA means working together to encourage, support, and uplift others.
How have you witnessed the YMCA mission in action?
YMCA Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
I have witnessed the YMCA mission in action through the way staff and members support each other every day. The YMCA creates programs and activities that help people stay healthy physically, mentally, and socially. I see people encouraging each other in workouts, participating in programs, and building friendships. The staff also work hard to make sure everyone feels welcome and included, no matter their background. This shows how the YMCA puts its mission into practice by helping people grow in spirit, mind, and body while creating a strong and supportive community.
What is something you are proud of from the last year?
I got accepted for college at the University of Phoenix for education!
