October 2021 Trainer of the Month - Sharon Marks

The YMCA of Parkersburg's Trainer of the Month is designed to help you get to know the trainers that help make our Y community great. This month, we’re introducing Sharon Marks who is one of the Y’s excellent TNT trainers. Let’s get to know Sharon:

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself: what are some fun facts about you?
I am a teacher at PHS who currently teaches Driver Education. In the past, I taught English and History. I used to be an avid runner, participating in 50 marathons and ultras, until I had a knee replacement. Now, I’m pretty good at walking. Because of my love for running, I coach Jackson Middle School’s Track and Cross Country teams and serve on the River City Runners’ Board of Directors. I’m also the Director of the Turkey Trot, Kicks 4 Kids and Parkersburg News and Sentinel’s 2 Mile Race.

Concerning family life, I have been happily married for 40 years. I have 3 wonderful children and 6 fantastic grandkids.

2. What fitness class(es) do you instruct?
I teach TNT (Tone and Trim) on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:00pm.

3. When and why did you become a trainer? What's your style of training?
I started teaching TNT over 25 years ago. At first, I was filing in for the class. Eventually, I was given the privilege to take it over as a main instructor. I really enjoyed the class because it got me in shape and kept me in shape.

4. Tell us a little bit about the fitness class(es) that you instruct.
TNT is a strength class that involves a variety of dumbbell exercises.

5. What is your most favorite part about instructing at the YMCA of Parkersburg and why?
My most favorite part about instructing at the Y is meeting and connecting with the members, guests and staff.
