May 2022 Member of the Month - Matt Maloney

The YMCA of Parkersburg's Member of the Month is designed to help you get to know the members that help make our Y community great. This month, we’re celebrating Matt Maloney. Get to know Matt by reading his responses below.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself: what are some fun facts about you?

I was born and raised in Parkersburg, WV and am a PHS and WVU alumni. During my time at WVU, I was the founder of the WVU Powerlifting Club where we grew to over 50 members and a USPA CO-ED Team National Championship.

2. What types of fitness/training/exercise do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy strength training the most as it promotes a better quality of life through boosting metabolism, lowering risk of injury, improves mood, boosts brain health, has cardiovascular health benefits, and protects bone health/muscle mass.

3. Which fitness classes do you participate in?

None right now.

4. What is your favorite part of the YMCA of Parkersburg?

My favorite part of the YMCA is the atmosphere. Both the staff and members create a supportive, encouraging, and enjoyable atmosphere that provides a strong sense of community which reflects all the YMCA does for the surrounding area. Whether a beginner or expert, the support from staff/members makes visiting the YMCA something to look forward to daily.

5. Why is the YMCA of Parkersburg your preferred gym?

The YMCA is my preferred gym of Parkersburg due to the broad range of equipment that tailors towards all training types and fitness goals. As my workout types and goals will vary throughout the year, the YMCA of Parkersburg has the most qualified personnel and equipment to ensure that my goals are fully supported.
