March Member of the Month - Reed Byers
The YMCA of Parkersburg's Member of the Month is designed to help you get to know the members that help make our Y community great. This month, we’re introducing Reed Byers, who recently joined the Y. Get to know him by reading his responses below.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself: what are some fun facts about you?
I am currently training to qualify for the Boston Marathon, and have submitted an application to Guinness World Records to set the record for the fastest half marathon runner dressed as a shark. I also have an extensive stuffed animal family, all of which are named. Sidenote - I am partial to penguins!
2. What types of fitness/training/exercise do you enjoy the most?
I’ve been a tennis player for a long time, but have recently fallen in love with running. I enjoy strength training and the results it produces, but running is much more of a challenge for me. Running is therapeutic and makes me feel strong mentally and physically.
3. Are you currently enrolled in fitness classes at the Y? If so, please list all of the classes you take.
I have only attended yoga so far. It’s on Sunday, which is typically my long run day. I’m usually pretty sore so after running, so the stretching helps me recover and recharge mentally.
I hate that I missed the belly dancing class during “Try the Y Week”. That could’ve been fun!
4. What is your favorite part of the YMCA of Parkersburg?
The staff is absolutely amazing! I also love the steam room. Sometimes, I’ll use it at 5:00 AM.
5. Why is the YMCA of Parkersburg your preferred gym?
I enjoy the variety of equipment, the many different class options, and the always warm and welcoming staff. Most importantly, I love being part of the YMCA’s community-based mission of building a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
