What is your role at the YMCA? 

I am a lead teacher for the Early Learning Program.

Tell us a little about your Y-story. What made you want to come work at the YMCA? 

I’m currently in school for Early Childhood Education, and I felt that working at the YMCA would be a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience while doing something I’m passionate about. I’ve always wanted to make a positive and lasting impact on children, and I believe the YMCA is a great place to learn, grow, and help children feel supported and encouraged.

How has the YMCA impacted your life? 

The YMCA has helped me grow as a person and has given me the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with the children and families I work with. It has taught me patience, responsibility, and the importance of being a positive role model. Being able to see the children learn, grow, and feel supported has made my experience at the YMCA very meaningful

What do you think the community needs to know about the YMCA of Parkersburg?

I think the community should know that the YMCA of Parkersburg is a welcoming place where people can come together and feel like they belong. The Y makes a difference by supporting children, families, and the community in many different ways

How have you witnessed the YMCA mission in action?

YMCA Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. 

I’ve witnessed the YMCA mission through the way staff create a positive, supportive, and welcoming environment for children. Seeing children learn new things, build confidence, make friends, and feel comfortable being themselves is a great example of helping build a healthy spirit, mind, and body

What is something you are proud of from the last year?

Something I’m really proud of from the last year is earning my associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. It took a lot of hard work, dedication, and balancing school with other responsibilities. I’m proud of myself for staying committed and reaching a goal that I worked toward for a long time. It has also given me more confidence in myself and motivated me to continue growing and making a positive impact on children’s lives
