December Staff Member of the Month - Kage Mathess

Kage Mathess was nominated for his work ethic. He is always willing to help out when needed. When our Aquatics department was putting together a skit about Aquatic Safety at our local elementary schools he was quick to participate. He helps out wherever help is needed even if it goes beyond his work description. We are so grateful to have Kage on our team.

Tell us a little about your Y-story. What made you want to come work at the YMCA?

I first applied here because I knew a lot of the workers and some of the patrons. I figured this was a good environment with good people for my first job.

How has the YMCA impacted your life?

It has helped me build strong connections with many patrons and other staff members.

What should this community know about the YMCA of Parkersburg?

It is a great place to meet all kinds of new people and make new friends.

How have you witnessed the YMCA Mission in action?

Many people of all ages use our facility to better themselves; whether that be using our weights, socializing with others here, or one of our programs. My favorite example would probably be the rock steady boxing to help with with Parkinson’s disease.

What is something you are proud of from the last year?

One thing I am proud of is the relationships I’ve built with a lot of the patrons. Whenever I come into work I can always look forward to talking to them.
