October Staff Member of the Month - Carol Hicks

What is your role at the YMCA?

I work as a Swim Lesson Instructor.

Tell us a little about your Y-story. What made you want to come work at the YMCA?

I joined the Y in 1970 & became a Swimming Teacher in the 1970's. I am proud to have held many positions here at the Y. I have helped in the office with secretarial work, the Afterschool Program, Child Watch, & Front Desk. I am so happy to be teaching swimming. I am very proud to be associated with the Y.

How has the YMCA impacted your life?

The Y has made me a better, stronger & healthier woman.

What do you think the community needs to know about the YMCA of Parkersburg?

think the community needs to know more about the programs the Y offers to our community. The Y is active with programs for children & adults throughout the entire year.

How have you witnessed the YMCA mission in action?

YMCA Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

I witness the Y mission in action when I see & hear the children saying “be nice” “take turns” and the adults throughout the building smiling and greeting each other.

What is something you are proud of from the last year?

I am proud to have survived cancer and am strong enough to be able to be back at our YMCA.
