October Trainer of the Month - Rachel Flowers

Rachel Flowers - October Trainer of the Month

The YMCA of Parkersburg's Trainer of the Month is designed to help you get to know the trainers that help make our Y community great. This month, we’re introducing Rachel Flowers who instructs our Cardio Drumming and POUND classes. Let’s get to know her:

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself: what are some fun facts about you?

I am a mom of 2 great kids (Kaylie and Ryan). I’ve been doing Zumba for 10 years, and instructing it for 6 years. For 1 year and 3 months, I’ve been doing POUND/Cardio Drumming.

2. What fitness class(es) do you instruct?

Zumba
POUND/Cardio Drumming: Thursdays from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

3. When and why did you become a trainer? What's your style of training?

I started teaching just for the simple fact that I love to dance, and have been doing it since I was young. I also love the energy in the room during class. If the dancers are laughing and having fun, then I did my job!

4. Tell us a little bit about the fitness class(es) that you instruct.

POUND/Cardio Drumming is an energizing, fun class based on playing the drums without using a drum set. It’s a full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with some Yoga and Pilates-inspired movements. It’s very simple to modify for all fitness levels.

5. What is your most favorite part about instructing at the YMCA of Parkersburg and why?

The members and staff are very friendly and treat you like family! After teaching at the YMCA of Parkersburg, I wouldn’t think of going anywhere else.
