What is your role at the YMCA?

I am a summer camp head counselor for the 8-9 year old group.

Tell us a little about your Y-story. What made you want to come work at the YMCA?

Growing up I was very involved with almost every YMCA program that was offered, whether it be summer camp, after school, and the numerous sporting camps and rec leagues that the YMCA offered. So when I saw that I had a chance to help other children have the same amazing experiences that I had I figured that it would be a perfect opportunity for me.

How has the YMCA impacted your life?

I am currently studying to become a social studies teacher at the University of Akron so YMCA has given me a ton of experience handling almost every sort of situation that a teacher would have which so far has helped me more than anything I could have learned in a classroom.

What do you think the community needs to know about the YMCA of Parkersburg?

The Parkersburg YMCA is here to serve the entire community offering programs and opportunities for people of all ages, interests, and abilities. From youth development and summer camps to wellness, aquatics, sports, and family programs, there’s truly something for everyone. With the continued support of both the YMCA and our community, we can work together to strengthen connections, improve lives, and help make Parkersburg an even better place to live, grow, and thrive.

How have you witnessed the YMCA mission in action?

YMCA Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

I’d say how the entire summer camp staff goes above and beyond to create such an ideal environment for all of the campers. Giving it their all every day no matter of if they themselves were having a good day to allow everyone to have an enjoyable summer at the Y.

What is something you are proud of from the last year?

NGL (not gonna lie) my proudest achievement was being named a head councilor as it meant a lot to me that my bosses have enough respect and trust for me to be in charge of an entire age group. Especially since I plan to have a career in education I feel like this is a step in the right direction for me.
